Identification of a rubber track
To ensure that the correct rubber track is delivered for your mini excavator, one must first determine the dimensions of the rubber track. Initially this is easily done by looking up with the machine-brand and machine-model in our catalogues. This data (brand and model) can always be found on the identification plate hanging on the machine. If it proves impossible to find out the type of the machine, then it is necessary to identify the size of the rubber track.
Rubber tracks are generally characterized by 3 parameters (C x A x B):
- The width of the track (C)
- Track pitch (A)
- Number of links/cams/elements (B)
This information is usually found on the inner surface of the rubber track (D).
Example:
A Kubota U20-3 is equipped with a rubber track type 250x47x84. In this case, the numbers have the following meaning:
- “250” corresponds to the track width of 250mm
- “47”: is the pitch of the track expressed in millimeters
- “84”: corresponds to the number of links of the track
A more pleasant ride and comfort with the “short-pitch” rubber tracks
Most mini-excavators can be equipped either with a “long-pitch”-rubber track or with an equivalent “short-pitch”-rubbertrack.
The presence of longer links (cams/metal pieces) is typical for a long-pitch rubber track. In contrast, a short-pitch rubber track has shorter links. Usually the length of the short-pitch is about half that of the corresponding long-pitch link.
In order for the short-pitch rubber track to eventually have the same length as the long-pitch one, the shorter link-length is compensated by the presence of a double amount of links. Since the short pitch rubber track has more links and the distance beween two successive links is smaller, the lower track rollers are always and better supported. This ultimately results in less vibrations during displacement of your excavator.
At Janssen Track, we believe that comfort and productivity go together, which is why we only supply the short-pitch rubber tracks where possible.
