How to identify a rubber track?
The size of a rubber track
Before answering the question on how to identify a rubber track, one should know that each rubber track is identified using 3 parameters C x A x B, where:
- C = The width of the rubber track
- A = The pitch of the rubber track
- B = The number of links/elements
Usually these dimensions are also shown on the inner surface of the rubber track (D). The sizes C and A are always expressed in millimeters (mm). When looking for the size on the rubber track, it is good to know that one can also find other numbers such as: a serial number, production number, part number, … So here it is important to be sure what you are looking for. To distinguish between the various numbers, we give an example of a size on the following image. Notice the pattern where the 3 parameters are separated by a letter “X”. The track size shown here is 450x76x84.
Identifying a rubber track
In the following steps, we provide the answer to the question, “How do I identify a rubber track?”
Step 1 – The track width:
The width of the rubber track is simply measured using a ruler meter (or measuring tape), as shown in the illustration. In this example we measure 450mm
Step 2 – The pitch:
To measure the pitch of a rubber track, we place a ruler meter on the area of a link and measure the distance to the same area of the next link. In the following picture, we thus measure: 76mm.
Step 3 – The number of links:
Finally, we count the number of links / lugs in the rubber track. Here it is sufficient to number the links one by one. In this example, we end up with 80 links.
