Wear on the track guards
Although simple in design, wear on the track guides is often overlooked. Yet, track guides play a crucial role: guiding the track chain and preventing it from derailing too easily. To some extent, the undercarriage's bottom rollers also perform this function, but not sufficiently. During an undercarriage overhaul, the following wear patterns may be observed:
Wear patterns
The height of the chain guide has been reduced.
The track guard is broken.
The track guide is deformed.
Depending on the situation, you can choose to either build up the guides on excavators and bulldozers by welding or either replace them entirely. If you opt to build up the chain guides by welding, ensure there is a specific amount of clearance between the track chain and the guide(s). To ensure the guide functions correctly, this clearance must not exceed 15 mm.
